Lumka Msibi is a trailblazing award winning Rocket Scientist. She is a qualified Aeronautical Engineer with design experience in the defense industry including technical leadership roles in systems engineering and project management.
In February 2015, at the age of 24, she received South Africa’s highest award for young ambassadors, the Ubuntu youth diplomacy award which strives to recognize industry leaders and imminent persons for their contributions towards promoting South Africa’s national interest and values throughout the world.
Lumka has traveled to 6 of the 7 continents of the world representing South Africa in the past 3 years. Her travels have taken her as far South as the frozen plains of Antarctica, as far East as China and Australia and as far north as Canada and the United Kingdom.
In October 2014 Lumka won first prize among in a global competition hosted by the International Astronautical Conference in Toronto, Canada.
Through her travels, Lumka has given talks across the world ranging from technical conference presentations, leadership, motivational talks, STEM outreach and Women in Technology.
In May 2015 she was an invited keynote speaker for International Women’s Forum (IWF) cornerstone conference, which brought 400 top leaders from around the world. She spoke alongside other keynote speakers and notable leaders from South Africa which include: Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma (Chairperson of the African Union, Politician), Thuli Madonsela (Public Protector), Pumzile Mlambo-Ngcuku (United Nations Under-Secretary-General), Bridgette Motsepe Radebe (Business Women).
The International Women’s Forum (IWF) advances leadership across careers, cultures and continents by connecting the world’s most preeminent women of significant and diverse achievement. The IWF brings together an unprecedented global membership of over 6,000 women leaders in 33 countries across six continents.
In June 2015, Lumka was nominated for the CEO Young Achiever of the Year Award at the CEO Annual Achievement Awards on a criteria based on demonstration of leadership both technical and management and exceptional performance. She has been elected to various leadership positions including being appointed the National point of contact for South Africa for the space generation advisory council.
She has been featured in various media for her accomplishments and achievements including Television (SABC on a News Current Affairs talkshow) , Newspapers (The Star Pretoria News, Saturday Star, Daily Sun, Boland News) Magazine (CEO Most Influential Women, GradX ) and Radio (SAfm, Powerfm, Metrofm, Ikwekwezi fm, ligwalagwala fm).
